The rooftop deck in the early evening: a canvas umbrella over a table and chairs on a patterned outdoor rug, a gas grill and a stuccoed outdoor kiva fireplace along the parapet, string lights overhead, and the foothills beyond the coyote-pole fence. The front of the compound on a clear day: a tan stucco wall and garage under a mature tree, a carved timber gate through to the courtyard on the left, and a bright sky with scattered cloud above. The deck under fresh snow: every post of the coyote-pole fence capped white, the parapet wall edged in snow, and the valley beyond turned pale to the horizon. The private courtyard at dusk: a teal front door lit warm under its own lamp, a white bistro table and chairs against the stucco wall, and a planter of trailing greenery in the foreground. Sunset from the deck: pink cloud across a wide sky, strings of bulbs overhead, the coyote-pole gate and rail in the foreground, and the tree canopy running out to the horizon.
Santa Fe · New Mexico

Five homes on a quiet hill, ten minutes on foot from the Santa Fe Plaza.

Two separate buildings on a quiet street just north of the Plaza, with open space all around and a private place for every home. We bought the place in 2020 and spent two years taking it back to the studs: roofs, wiring, plumbing, kitchens, baths. The vigas and the kiva fireplaces stayed. One casita we rent by the night, four homes we lease by the year, and the same two people look after all of it.

The property

What this place is.

A five-unit compound on a hilltop street of long-time neighbors just north of downtown Santa Fe. The Plaza is ten minutes on foot, downhill. CHRISTUS St. Vincent is eight minutes away. Canyon Road is a half hour walk or a six minute drive. You spend the day in Santa Fe and come home to a street that is not a tourist zone.

Every unit was taken back to the studs and finished in 2022. Stainless kitchens, granite counters in the long-term homes and restored original wood counters in the casita. Skylights and vaulted ceilings. Coyote-fenced patios. Ductless heating and cooling. In-unit laundry. Garages and dedicated parking.

Four of the units are long-term homes, and the people in them are why the compound stays quiet. The fifth is the casita. Four nights for the Opera, a few months on a hospital assignment, or four years on a lease, you get the same thing: work done properly, and owners who answer their own messages.

The casita's main room with a fire lit in the white plaster kiva fireplace, exposed viga ceiling, sofa, wall-mounted television, and a patterned wool rug on wood floors.

The Casita

About 700 sq ft, one designed room for living and sleeping. A custom queen built by a Santa Fe carpenter folds into a full desk by day, and a queen sofa bed takes a third guest, sleeping three. Kiva fireplace, a large private deck over downtown to the mountains, and a two-car garage of your own. Our best rate is here, with no added booking fees.

Unit C's great room, empty and full of light: refinished wood floors, an arched doorway into the white kitchen with a gas range, and a breakfast bar with open shelving.
Live · long-term lease, 12+ months

Four homes

Four unfurnished homes, from a 414 sq ft one-bedroom to a 1,384 sq ft two-bedroom. All renovated. All with mountain views. Current availability and terms on request.

Evening over the neighborhood: string lights against a pink and blue sky, a coyote-pole rail in the foreground, and the tree canopy running out to the mountains.

We had a wonderful stay at Andrew's Paseo Retreat! From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much thought and care he had put into creating a comfortable space. He truly is one of the most thoughtful and intentional hosts we've stayed with.

The retreat had everything we needed and so many touches that made it feel special- from bathrobes, lotion for the dry Santa Fe climate, and dog bowls for our pup Yuki, to a well-equipped kitchen with quality appliances. It felt more like staying in a thoughtfully cared-for home than a typical Airbnb.

We especially enjoyed the peaceful back deck and the convenience of having a garage. The location was perfect, close to the Plaza in a lovely, quiet neighborhood, making it easy to explore Santa Fe while still feeling relaxed. It was also a great location for us and our pup, Yuki, with Frank Ortiz Dog Park just a short drive away.

Andrew was an excellent host-kind, responsive, and genuinely caring. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Perfect spot to stay while in Santa Fe.

Property was very comfortable and well thought out. The location was ideal,a-5 minute walk to the plaza. Everything we need for cooking was there. The deck and patio gave us a great outside place to hang out. We have stayed in several places in Santa Fe over the years, but this is our favorite.

My wife and I stayed for five nights, and we enjoyed our stay. The apartment was spotless and nicely designed. The kitchen was well appointed. The bathroom was large, and the walk-in closet was huge. Although it is a studio apartment, there was enough room for both of us to work without any issues. The Murphy bed also had a great mattress for a comfortable night's sleep. Having a garage, which was also spotless, was very nice to keep our car out of the Santa Fe sun. We have stayed at multiple Airbnb's in Santa Fe, and Andrew's place by far has the best location. It was an easy 10 minute walk to the heart of Santa Fe and the restaurants, shops and galleries. Plus, it was a less than 5 minute walk to gym that offered $5 day passes. Of course, what really makes an Airbnb stay is the host, and Andrew is fantastic. Andrew is the most communicative host we've every had at an Airbnb. He was proactive in providing information on the apartment, as well as Santa Fe. Andrew is top notch.

    Our reply

Brian, thank you so much for this. It means a lot to hear that you and your wife had such a great stay, and reviews like this are exactly why I love doing this.

I'm glad the space felt comfortable for both of you to work and relax, and that the garage came in handy for keeping the car out of the sun. The location really is one of my favorite things about the property, so it's great to hear it made getting around Santa Fe so easy.

Thank you for being such wonderful guests. You're welcome back anytime, and I hope our paths cross again soon.

The thesis

Built once. Built right.

When I bought this place in 2020 every unit needed work, and we did the boring parts rather than the photogenic ones. Electrical, plumbing, roofs, heating and cooling, then kitchens, bathrooms and finishes. Two years of it. Nothing here was made to photograph well and fail later.

You notice it in small ways. The water is hot straight away. The doors shut properly. It is quiet at night. That is the same whether you are here four nights or four years.
